The Chamber Orchestra Kremlin performs Romantic works by Niels Gade The Danes pronounce the name of Niels Wilhelm Gade (1817–1890) in the same breath as the names of the most notable of their countrymen: author Hans Christian Andersen, nuclear physicist Niels Bohr, philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, choreographer Auguste Bournonville and sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen. Gade was the first Danish composer to earn international recognition, and his music continues to represent one of the highest achievements in the tradition of Danish music.

Niels Gade was born in Copenhagen. The multi-talented young musician performed his first public concert as a violinist at the age of 16; shortly thereafter he was appointed a member of the Royal Cappella. His first symphony received its premiere in Leipzig under Mendelssohn’s direction and was highly praised by Schumann. Gade led the «Muzikforeningen» music society and conducted its symphony concerts for 40 years. He was also the conductor of the Royal Theater in Copenhagen and was one of the founding members of Denmark’s first conservatory, an institution which he headed until the end of his life.

Niels Gade composed five overtures, eleven cantatas, operas, three ballets, works for chamber orchestra, songs, choral works, sacred music and music for theater. The Chamber Orchestra Kremlin under the direction of Misha Rachlevsky has recorded three beautiful works for strings for Claves.
