Shabaka Hutchings' debut album, released under his own name in May 2022, is now available on LP. Known for his internationally acclaimed groundbreaking groups (Sons of Kemet, The Comet Is Coming, Shabaka & The Ancestors), Shabaka presents a quieter, more contemplative sound on this album. 7 songs on this album feature Shabaka's wind instruments The other instruments complement Shabaka's playing. Afrikan Culture" was created in contemplation of meditation and what it means to quiet one's mind and embrace the music as it rises to the surface. It features the various types of shakuhachi flutes that I have been learning for the past few years and use in my daily breath-conscious practice. Also, as a new experiment, I created a forest of sound by layering many flutes to create glimpses of melody and rhythm floating in space," Shabaka commented about the piece.
