The Caliber Armor AR550 Level III+ Steel Body Armor Package pairs two AR550 multi-curve steel hard armor plates with the Condor Modular Operator Plate Carrier (MOPC) Gen II. The AR550 plates are NIJ Listed under STANDARD-0101.06 Level III and independently tested to special threats, including M855 green-tip rounds, earning a Level III+ rating. Available in 10x12 and 11x14 sizes, with Shooters Cut or SAPI Style Cut geometry, and a choice between Advanced PolyShield anti-spall coating or Standard Coating. Package weight runs from 19.5 lbs (two 10x12 Shooters Cut, PolyShield) to 23 lbs (two 11x14 Shooters Cut, PolyShield).
AR550 is a hardened abrasion-resistant ballistic steel that Caliber Armor has worked with since 2012. These plates stop multiple projectile hits and carry a Level III+ special-threat rating by defeating M855 (62-grain FMJ steel-core, 5.56x45 NATO) rounds in addition to all standard NIJ Level III threats. The PolyShield variants are NIJ Listed under STANDARD-0101.06 Level III. Both PolyShield and Standard Coating variants are tested to Level III and special threats.
Fragmentation from steel plate impacts is a real consideration. The Standard Coating protects against rust and the elements. The Advanced PolyShield coating is a purpose-formulated anti-spall compound applied to the strike face; PolyShield significantly reduces fragmentation risks after bullet impact. Caliber Armor strongly recommends the PolyShield coating for all steel plate setups.
Every AR550 plate ships in a single ergonomic multi-curve profile produced in one press step. Caliber Armor's proprietary pressing process achieves the same curvature profile seen in multi-curve ceramic armor without the structural weakening that can result from multiple sequential bends. The Shooters Cut removes material from the upper corners to reduce shoulder interference and overall weight while retaining coverage over the vital organs. The SAPI Style Cut follows the familiar military plate outline for shooters who prefer that geometry.
The Condor Outdoor Modular Operator Plate Carrier (MOPC) Gen II is the included carrier. It accepts Caliber Armor AR550 plates in 10x12 and 11x14, as well as any other ESAPI-format plates up to 10.25x13.25 inches. The cummerbund is adjustable from 40 to 48 inches (measured around the navel) and includes built-in soft armor pockets sized for CaliberX Level IIIA soft armor side panels — a mobility-forward alternative to hard side plates. If you prefer to run hard side plates, the VAS Side Plate Inserts are required and sold separately.
The MOPC Gen II does not have integrated side plate pockets. For a scaled-down loadout, the internal waist strap can replace the full cummerbund. The carrier ships with removable low-profile shoulder pads, adjustable shoulder straps, MOLLE webbing on all surfaces, a front map pocket with snap and hook-and-loop closure, a breathable 3D mesh liner, side release buckles, and an emergency drag handle.
This is a one-size-fits-most package. The 10x12 plate fits most individuals. To verify plate size, measure from the bottom of your jugular notch to approximately 2–3 inches above the navel (plate height), then nipple to nipple (plate width). The cummerbund range of 40–48 inches accommodates a broad range of torso sizes. Contact us if you need help confirming fit before ordering.
The MOPC Gen II accommodates 10x12 and 11x14 Caliber Armor AR550 plates and any ESAPI-format plate up to 10.25x13.25 inches. The adjustable cummerbund (40–48 in.) and shoulder straps give a workable fit range for most adult torso sizes. The cummerbund soft-armor pockets accept CaliberX Level IIIA side panels for lateral coverage without adding hard-plate weight. To run hard side plates, add the VAS Side Plate Inserts separately. Contact us before ordering if your torso measurements are close to the cummerbund limits.
These plates defeat all standard NIJ Level III threats and the M855 (62-grain FMJ steel-core, 5.56x45 NATO) special threat round. The Level III+ designation reflects that additional special-threat testing beyond the NIJ Level III standard. Multi-hit performance is rated and tested.
Yes. The PolyShield variants are NIJ Listed under STANDARD-0101.06 Level III. Both PolyShield and Standard Coating configurations are tested to NIJ Level III and special threats. The NIJ Compliant Products List at nij.ojp.gov is the authoritative source for current listing status.
Standard Coating protects the steel from rust and corrosion. PolyShield is a purpose-formulated anti-spall compound that significantly reduces bullet fragmentation risk after impact — a known consideration with steel armor. Caliber Armor strongly recommends PolyShield for any wearable steel plate setup.
No. The MOPC Gen II does not have integrated side plate pockets. The cummerbund's built-in soft armor pockets accept CaliberX Level IIIA soft armor side panels. To run hard side plates, you need the VAS Side Plate Inserts, sold separately.
Shooters Cut removes material from the upper plate corners, reducing weight and shoulder interference while maintaining vital-organ coverage. SAPI Style Cut follows the military SAPI plate outline. Both cuts are available in 10x12 and 11x14. The Shooters Cut is the more common choice for civilians and off-duty carry.
