Setting it up properly

• Fill the base so the downstem sits 15–20 mm under the waterline
• Seat the stem on the base grommet and check for an airtight seal at the hub
• Pack the clay bowl loosely, leaving 2–3 mm of headroom under the rim
• Foil cover, even hole pattern, then place 2–3 lit coconut coals on top
• Open with light draws and use the purge valve to clear stale smoke as the session moves on

Care and longevity

• Flush the stem and downstem with warm water after each session
• Soft brush and warm water for the glass base — no detergents
• Rinse the ball-bearing purge port if it ever sticks
• Swap the non-washable hose for a washable upgrade once ghosting appears
• Dry every metal part fully before storage

Most of our regulars do. The included Egyptian hose works fine but isn't washable — a silicone or leather washable hose is the single best upgrade you can make on day one.
