The osprey is a raptor of prey, also known as the fish hawk due to its diurnal diet mostly comprised of fish. The osprey is noted for its swiftness when in flight, capable of hovering and swooping at speed with its wings fully outstretched in order to catch prey. It is the only hawk species that exclusively feeds on live fish, diving into water with powerful wings to snatch their quarry before returning to shore.
