We wanted a keyboard that can be disassembled and reassembled without any other tools, so we decided to make one. Introducing the KiiBoom Moonshadow 81, an aluminum-cased QMK barebones kit.
STURDY MILLENNIUM-OLD MORTISE-TENON TECHNOLOGY
Inspired by the mortise and tenon technique of woodworking, we designed the joints of the KiiBoom Moonshadow 81 to be firmly connected at right angles. The mortise and tenon technique has been utilized for thousands of years and is renown for its strength and feasibility. In this way, the keyboard can be disassembled and assembled simply by joining the pieces together. This is especially convenient for gasket-mounted keyboards, so you can make any mods to the board quickly, without unscrewing and screwing with specialized screwdrivers.
75% HOT-SWAPPABLE LAYOUT
The 75% keyboard layout is the perfect balance between functionality and portability. To reduce the size of the keyboard, we have removed all of the unnecessary keys that you never use, while maintaining the essential ones that you use every day for gaming, typing, and programming. This creates an incredibly compact keyboard that fits perfectly in your backpack, on the desk, and even on your lap for on-the-go typing.
The Moonshadow 81 features hot-swappable switches. Mechanical switches come in various tactile and auditory styles. Previously, changing mechanical switches meant having to solder each individual switch to the board. But with hot-swappable switches, you can simply pop the switches in and out of the board without any soldering. With the Moonshadow 81, you can completely customize the feel and sound of your keyboard anytime without having to buy a whole new keyboard!
PREMIUM ALUMINUM CASE AND FRAME
Aluminum dissipates heat faster than other metals. It means that you can work with this type of keyboard case anywhere. Furthermore, Aluminum keyboard cases are far more durable than their counterparts while being lighter than other metals. The aluminum keyboard case has proved to stand the test of time while it remains sturdy.
We provide PC (Polycarbonate) plates for gasket-mounted keyboards. PC is extremely flexible, providing a slightly cushioned typing experience and an incredible typing sound. Meanwhile, the PC provides the lowest noise which is perfect for people who prefer to use the keyboard in a silent place, it's a perfect partner for work. QMK & VIA SUPPORT
QMK/VIA allows users to intuitively remap any key on the keyboard and create a multitude of macro commands, shortcuts, or key combinations for your keyboard. The KiiBoom Moonshadow 81 features QMK/VIA to help increase your productivity and allow users to make any layout changes easily.
SOUTH-FACING LEDS AND CUSTOMIZABLE RGB
We have seen many keyboards that are built with high-class crafting processes and friendly functions, but without backlights! It can be such a deal breaker for many gamers who enjoy the added ambiance of RGB lights. For this reason, we have added LEDs into the KiiBoom Moonshadow 81. The LEDs on the PCB are south-facing, which means that the switches are installed in a way that does not cause interference with cherry-profile keycaps. You can experience the full glory of RGB lighting effects specifically designed to illuminate towards the user.
