An unusual antique Victorian gold ‘Albert’ necklace, dating from around 1880.
This antique chain is crafted in solid 9K gold with a fantastic (and typically Victorian!) subtle, rosy gold hue. It is completed with a T-bar and a swivelling citrine gemstone fob.
The necklace weighs an impressive 33 grams in total. This type of chain is known as an Albert chain. Traditionally, it would have been hung from a gentleman’s waist coat and been attached to his pocket watch, but today these chains look even better when worn as a necklace!
This particular Albert chain is rather special, with its unique alternating ‘trombone’ links and spinning fob carved from a single piece of citrine gemstone. The chain is completed with two ‘dog clip’ clasps.
The necklace has a wearable length of 44cm (17.5 inches), whilst the faceted citrine fob measures 20mm x 14mm on its longest axes.
The gold necklace carries hallmarks for 9K gold and remains in excellent condition despite its significant age!
